PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Ancestral Relationships for mental health

Compassionately empowering you to live your happiest and healthiest life.

BACKGROUND

EDUCATION

Hi, I’m Dr. Sarah Iannucci, and I am a Board Certified adult psychiatrist who specializes in holistic mental health.  My educational background includes an undergraduate degree in biology and cultural anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and a medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  I also completed both a Residency in General Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Jackson Memorial Hospital through the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine.  During two years of my residency training I spent additional time studying in the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy program through the Florida Psychoanalytic Center.  I was awarded the annual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Award by the Florida Psychoanalytic Society together with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  I also received recognition for my work in the inpatient and outpatient Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder programs at the Miami Veteran’s Association Medical Center.

EXPERIENCE

I have over 17 years of clinical experience across a variety of different patient populations and treatment environments.  I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, federal and local forensic facilities, substance abuse treatment programs, upscale practices, major hospital systems, and public clinics throughout the United States.  I enjoy both the fast pace of emergency room work and the more gradual, deeper work of individual therapy.  I ran a private practice located in Fairfax County, Virginia for 9 years before transitioning to a telepsychiatry model, and have been practicing telemedicine online via video since 2017.

My current virtual private practice is focused on providing holistic, quality care for people who want a more personalized and compassionate experience than what is typically encoutered in conventional mental health care settings.  My goal is to truly understand each patient, so that I am able to provide them with insight about the underlying causes of their symptoms and to empower them with the best options for achieving long-term mental wellness.  I offer a variety of different treatment services to help with this, including medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle counseling/coaching, and nutrition and weight loss support. I also off referrals to other providers and disciplines when indicated.

My additional area of professional focus is delivering a more realistic and sustainable model for brain health and mental wellness to as many people as possible through my blog and sister site PrimentalHealth.com.  There I will be providing practical advise and education about what we really need to keep our brains happy and healthy, in addition to general information about psychiatric symptoms and disorders.  At PrimentalHealth.com I will be examining the pressures that our modern lifestyles exherts on our mental and physical health – and what to do about it.  My recent book, The Better Mood Book, is currently available in electronic format through both sites and details how my treatment philosophy applies to and can be used to overcome symptoms of depression.

PHILOSOPHY

I have always been a “big picture” thinker and my holistic treatment approach and philosophy have been informed by my diverse personal and professional experiences, including my holistic osteopathic medical training.  I appreciate that mental health issues do not fit neatly into categories and that each patient’s experience is unique.  I also appreciate the vast complexity of the mind, and by extension, the psychological disturbances that originate in the mind.  The truth is that mental disorders are multi-faceted; they require a more varied and nuanced approach than what conventional medicine typically offers in order to be effectively treated.  In addition, I believe that a greater emphasis on mental wellness and disease prevention, including education about healthy brain lifestyles and the impact of modern living on mental health, are of utmost importance not only for individual wellness but also for the improvement of our society overall.

Ancestral Relationships for mental health

“I am a firm believer that relationships are written into our DNA and are a part of what makes us human.  They are also a part of the reality of the universe.  From our initial contact I work to build our therapeutic relationship as well as to help you strengthen the relationships in your life that create health and happiness.  These include relationships with ourself, with each other, and with the natural world.”
